WOOD PELLET APPLIANCES

What are wood pellets?

Wood Pellets are the latest renewable fuel to hit the UK market. This carbon neutral heating fuel has been widely used throughout Europe and America for many years. The pellets are made of compressed sawdust, mostly manufactured from waste products from sawmills and other wood processing industries. No chemical additives are needed, the natural lignin of the wood itself serving as a binder, although sometimes small quantities of vegetable oil are added as well, as a lubricant for the pellet moulding process. There are an increasing number of pellet manufacturers in the UK as more and more wood converters see a growing demand for this fuel made out of what is essentially their waste product

Why use Pellet Boilers?

Kioto built in boiler Whether your heating needs are domestic or commercial pellet boilers offer one of the most economical running costs available.

They are self igniting, self cleaning and they run everything automatically when you set the timer - just like conventional heating! Optional extras include remote control and GSM access from your mobile phone!

For domestic users Pellet Boilers or Stoves can run as a room heater or if you choose a boiler version it will also run your central heating system and provide hot water or even underfloor heating.

There are many styles available including some utility models and some which are designed to be used in the lounge or kitchen. Fedra

For commercial heating applications we have a range of industrial boilers up to 500kW.

To cut running costs further you could integrate solar panels to provide lashings of FREE hot water as a bonus.

The Woodpecker range of boilers are ideal 'utility' boilers for domestic use. They have a large internal hopper which will hold several days worth of fuel. These boilers are also self cleaning.

Automatic de-ashing is available as an option, this uses an automated auger to remove ash from the combustion chamber, the ash is deposited in a secure ash can on the side of the boiler and only needs emptying by the user every 6 months or so.

If you haven't got a utility room or garage space big enough for a boiler, then there is also the 'Cosyman' option, a Woodpecker boiler contained within a weatherproof case. This boiler can be situated next to or away from your property, giving considerable flexibility in the installation.

Pellet Boilers are "carbon neutral" in that they use reclaimed wood product as their fuel source which releases the carbon that was absorbed during its growth also making them a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.

The Pellets are over 90% efficient and clean burning. They create extremely small amounts of Ash (the ash content of wood pellets is approx 0.5% by weight) which can be recycled by scattering on the garden as potash fertiliser.

The cost of running such a system will depend upon the pattern of use, size of property, number and type of radiators. The average household can consume around 3 to 4 tons of fuel per year.
